What you get

Cart reminders sent from your Google Sheet

Keep abandoned checkouts in Google Sheets, then send a personalized reminder through the WASenderPlus add-on. Columns fill the customer name, product left behind and checkout link.

Paced batches with daily caps

WASenderPlus defaults to 250 sends a day on a fresh number and allows up to 6,000 on a warm one. The gap between sends is 4–40 seconds. These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees.

Replies in one team inbox

A shopper's reply reaches the team inbox on your shared number. Agents answer size and color questions, shipping questions and payment doubts in a two-way conversation, inside the same chat.

Opt-out keywords checked in every reply

By default, WASenderPlus checks replies for opt-out keywords in 9 languages. A stop reply on a cart reminder should end your marketing to that contact, including later broadcasts. Keep your own opt-out record and check new lists against it.

Message variants for wording tests

Each broadcast allows up to 3 message body variants in WASenderPlus. Write a plain reminder, a question and a discount code version. Then send each to a randomly assigned sheet segment and compare reply rate and orders.

Plans for one owner or a whole team

The Entry plan costs $6/mo. The Team plan costs $19/mo with no cap on agents, so everyone answering cart replies can work from one shared number. Check currency, billing, renewal and cancellation terms before you subscribe.

How it works

1

Collect consented abandoned checkouts in a sheet

Move abandoned checkouts from Shopify, Salla, Zid or your own store into Google Sheets using a supported export or feed. Keep only rows with a usable phone number, recorded WhatsApp marketing consent and an eligible recipient country.

2

Remove buyers and apply suppression rules

Before each batch, remove rows with a completed order, a repeat reminder or an open support chat. This suppression step cuts reminders to people who already paid, but someone may still buy mid-batch, so keep batches short.

3

Write the reminder with merge fields

Use columns for customer name, product and recovery link. End with a clear call to action, a way to ask for help and a stop instruction.

4

Send the paced batch

Start the batch from the Google Sheets add-on or Chrome extension. WASenderPlus allows a gap of 4–40 seconds between sends. These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees.

5

Answer replies and log the outcome

Agents pick up replies in the team inbox and share a payment link in chat where needed. Record recovered orders, opt-outs and non-responses in the sheet before the next batch.

Consent and opt-outs

Consent comes first, and a stop reply ends the reminders

Before sending, confirm a usable phone number and valid opt-in consent covering the intended communication. Without both, you have no eligible contact to message.

You can capture both with a consent checkbox at checkout beside the checkout phone field. Store the answer, date and source in your sheet, so any agent can see why a contact is eligible.

Across incoming replies, WASenderPlus defaults to matching opt-out keywords in 9 languages. Keep one list across reminders and broadcasts, so a stop reply ends all marketing to that contact.

These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees. WhatsApp's terms, recipient-country eligibility and the privacy rules in your buyers' countries still apply, so check them before your first batch.

Record consent per contact

Add a consent column with the date and source of each opt-in. Rows without recorded consent stay out of the batch, even when a phone number exists.

Apply stop replies everywhere

Treat a stop reply as a rule for the contact, not the campaign. It covers cart reminders, seasonal broadcasts and every later list your team uploads.

Size batches to your team

Daily caps and pacing are queue controls. Use them to match each batch to reply-handling capacity, so the agents on shift can answer questions as they arrive.

Pacing does not prevent restrictions

WhatsApp may restrict a number under its own policies, and pacing does not change that. Watch blocks, reports and complaints, then pause and review your list if they rise.

More cart recovery questions

What is WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery and how does it work?

WhatsApp abandoned cart recovery sends a reminder to a shopper who left checkout after sharing a phone number and consent. The message names what they left and links back to their saved checkout.

Triggered apps send it from an abandonment event. WASenderPlus sends it as a staff-started, paced batch from Google Sheets, and replies go to your team inbox.

When should I send abandoned cart reminders on WhatsApp, and how many should I send?

CartKeeper suggests a first message 30 to 60 minutes after abandonment. Dondy suggests 1 hour, a follow-up after 24 hours, then a final reminder at 48 to 72 hours.

ChatMitra advises two or three reminders at most. Stop after your final message, and cancel the rest as soon as an order arrives.

What recovery rate can I realistically expect from WhatsApp?

No single figure applies to your store. Published rates vary by vendor, sector, discount use and definition of recovered, and WASenderPlus does not promise a rate.

Run a holdout test instead. Compare purchases among reminded contacts with a randomly assigned group who got no reminder, then use that difference as your planning figure.

Is WhatsApp better than email for abandoned cart recovery?

That depends on the shopper and your team. WhatsApp allows a reply in the same chat, so it suits stores that can answer questions quickly. Email suits long detail and contacts without WhatsApp consent.

You can run both. Measure each with a holdout group, and cap total reminders across the two channels rather than per channel.

Do I need customer consent to send abandoned cart messages on WhatsApp?

Yes. Before sending, confirm a usable phone number and valid consent covering the intended messages. ChatMitra limits messaging to shoppers who agreed to receive them.

Add a consent checkbox at checkout and store the answer per contact. Check the privacy and marketing rules where your buyers live. This is not legal advice.

Can I send a reminder to someone who did not enter a phone number?

No. Without a phone number, there is no WhatsApp contact to message. Consent is also required, so a number alone does not make a shopper eligible.

To reach more shoppers, ask for the number earlier in checkout, explain what you will send, and offer a clear opt-in choice.

Are abandoned cart messages classified as marketing messages by Meta?

Usually, yes. ChatMitra and Whapi describe them as marketing on the WhatsApp Business Platform, and they are best handled that way unless Meta's current rules say otherwise.

Classification rules can change, so check Meta's current documentation. Treat cart reminders as marketing in your consent wording and opt-out handling, whichever tool you use.

How much do WhatsApp abandoned cart messages cost?

Two costs can apply. WASenderPlus plans cost $6/mo on Entry and $19/mo on Team. If you use the WhatsApp Business Platform, Meta's per-message fees apply too and vary by country.

Read Meta's current rate card for those fees. Then compare those campaign costs, including staff time, with incremental contribution margin after discounts and other variable costs.

What should an abandoned cart WhatsApp message say?

Include the customer name, the product left behind and one checkout link. Add a way to ask for help and a stop instruction. Keep it short, and write in the shopper's language.

For example: 'Hi [First name], your [Product] is still in your cart. Here is your link: [Checkout link]. Questions? Reply here. Reply STOP to opt out.'

Should I include a discount in an abandoned cart reminder, and in which message?

Hold it back at first. ChatMitra advises keeping any discount code for the last reminder, while CartKeeper suggests a code after 2 hours without a purchase.

Test with and without an incentive. Count the discount as a cost, so a rise in orders does not hide a fall in margin.

What is the difference between an abandoned cart and an abandoned checkout?

An abandoned cart holds items added but not taken through checkout. An abandoned checkout began the checkout, often with contact details entered, then stopped before payment.

You can usually message only the second group, since a phone number and consent tend to be captured at checkout. Check your platform's current documentation for when a checkout counts as abandoned.

How do I connect my Shopify, Salla or Zid store to WhatsApp for cart recovery?

Check each platform's current documentation for cart events, apps or webhooks, including required permissions and plans. That route suits event-triggered messaging from a dedicated WhatsApp platform.

With WASenderPlus, the working list lives in Google Sheets. Export checkouts or have a developer push them into a sheet, then send the reviewed batch through the add-on.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API for automated cart recovery?

For unattended triggers, generally yes. Heyy and ChatMitra describe event-triggered reminders with approved templates on the WhatsApp Business API. Meta's documentation sets out the current terms.

WASenderPlus is a different fit, because you review a list and send a paced batch. For unattended reminders, compare API-based apps. For any tool, confirm its connection method and account requirements first.

Can customers reply to a cart reminder, and who handles those replies?

Yes. A reminder can open a two-way conversation in the same chat. With WASenderPlus, replies reach the team inbox on your shared number, so any agent on shift can answer.

Name one owner per shift, and agree who handles payment and refund questions. Size each batch to the replies that team can realistically handle.

How do I stop reminders from going to customers who have already purchased?

Triggered apps can cancel reminders when an order arrives, as ChatMitra describes. With a sheet workflow, you run that check yourself immediately before each batch. A shopper may still buy mid-batch, so keep batches short.

Match the batch against recent orders by phone number and remove every match. Add a sent-count column too, so nobody gets a reminder past your agreed limit.

How do I measure whether WhatsApp reminders are truly recovering sales?

Use a holdout group. Randomly assign eligible shoppers to fixed treatment and holdout groups, keep assignments across repeat checkouts, and use one observation window. Then subtract the holdout purchase rate from the treatment rate.

That difference is your incremental recovery. Attributed orders do not establish incremental impact and may include purchases that would have happened without the reminder.

Can abandoned cart messages be delivered to US phone numbers?

Marketing-template delivery to US numbers may be unavailable on the platform route. Scope matters: +1 also covers non-US numbers, and rules vary by message category. Confirm the position in Meta's current documentation before planning a US campaign.

For US recipients, plan on email follow-ups and SMS where you meet each channel's consent rules. WASenderPlus is not a way around a delivery rule.

Can paced sending stop WhatsApp flagging or restricting my number?

No. WASenderPlus pacing and caps are queue controls for scheduling and team workload. No setting can promise that a number stays unrestricted. WhatsApp applies its own policies to your account.

Handle the basics yourself. Message only consenting contacts and honor every stop reply. Remove old carts, then watch blocks and reports after each batch.

Should I broadcast to everyone who abandoned a cart?

Usually not. A broadcast to old abandoners differs from a timely reminder, and those contacts may no longer remember the cart. Limit any batch to recent, consenting checkouts.

A wider send can suit a genuine new offer, if those contacts agreed to marketing. Treat it as a separate campaign, with its own suppression and opt-out check.

What happens when a shopper replies STOP to a cart reminder?

WASenderPlus defaults to matching opt-out keywords in 9 languages across incoming replies. These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees.

Treat that reply as ending all marketing to the contact, including later broadcasts. Keep a master opt-out column, and check every new sheet against it before sending.

How many cart reminders can WASenderPlus send in a day?

On a fresh number, WASenderPlus defaults to 250 sends a day and allows up to 6,000 on a warm one. Its configured warm-up schedule is 2 weeks, which does not guarantee account standing or delivery.

These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees. Delivery depends on account status and recipient eligibility, so plan volume around replies your team can answer.

Does WASenderPlus send cart reminders automatically when a checkout is abandoned?

This page describes a list-based workflow, not an event trigger. You keep eligible checkouts in Google Sheets, review the list, then start a paced batch from the add-on or Chrome extension.

Some stores need an unattended reminder within minutes of every abandonment. For that part of your flow, compare event-triggered apps on the WhatsApp Business Platform.

How do I personalize a cart reminder in Google Sheets?

Put customer name, product and checkout link in their own columns. Then map each column to a merge field in your message. Send a test to your own number first.

Can I run WhatsApp cart reminders without writing code?

Yes, if your store can export abandoned checkouts into a sheet. You then filter the rows, write the message and start the batch from the Google Sheets add-on.

Code only becomes relevant when you want checkouts pushed into the sheet automatically. A developer can usually do that with a webhook from your store platform.

How to run WhatsApp cart recovery as a team

What counts as an abandoned cart versus an abandoned checkout

An abandoned cart means items were added but checkout never finished. An abandoned checkout goes further, because the shopper started checkout and often entered contact details before leaving.

That difference decides who you can reach. A cart-only visitor usually leaves no phone number. A checkout visitor may have shared one along with a WhatsApp marketing consent choice.

Platform definitions matter too. Check current Shopify documentation, or your own platform's, and separate event timing, incomplete checkout status and recovery eligibility before you set any timing.

Reachable-cart math: estimate your incremental orders first

Many guides start with a recovery rate. Start instead with reachable carts, the shoppers you are able and allowed to message. ChatMitra makes a similar point: checkout design limits who you can reach.

Count checkouts that have a usable WhatsApp number, valid consent, eligible delivery and no suppression. That total is your reachable carts. Pull these counts from your own store, never from a vendor's benchmark.

Estimated incremental orders = eligible reachable checkouts × measured incremental purchase-rate lift. If that looks small, fix the checkout phone field and consent wording before you write a single reminder.

Triggered flows versus reminder batches: which one fits your store

A triggered message sequence fires when an abandonment event reaches an automation layer through a webhook or app. Heyy describes this as distinct from a broadcast campaign, and the distinction is useful.

WASenderPlus works differently. You send a reviewed list as a batch from a sheet, with a person deciding what goes out. That adds a human check and gives up instant timing.

Choose a triggered app when volume is high and minutes matter. Choose a batch when your list is small enough to review and your team wants to talk with each replier.

Avoid sending one large broadcast to every past abandoner. Limit a batch to recent, consenting checkouts, because an old cart is a weak reason to message someone.

Reminder timing when you work in batches

Published guidance clusters early. CartKeeper suggests a first message 30 to 60 minutes after abandonment. Dondy suggests 1 hour, a follow-up after 24 hours, then a final reminder at 48 to 72 hours.

A batch cannot hit those windows for every cart. A checkout abandoned just after a run waits for the next one, so the wait can approach the run interval. Queue processing and operating hours may add further delay.

Set your runs during staffed hours, since a reminder that draws questions needs someone available to answer. Then choose the run frequency that your team can sustain each day.

How many reminders to send, and when to stop

ChatMitra advises two or three reminders at most, and BusinessChat describes a series of 3 notifications. Treat that 3-message sequence as a ceiling, because you can always choose to send fewer.

Give each message a job. The first reminds, and the follow-up answers a likely doubt. The last closes the loop with any offer you have chosen to make.

Finish with a firm rule to stop after the final reminder. Add a sent-count column and remove any row at your limit, so nobody on the team adds another message by accident.

What an abandoned cart WhatsApp message should say

A working reminder names the shopper, the product left behind and the next step. Add one recovery link and invite a question. Javna frames the aim well: make returning easier, without pressure.

Try this structure: 'Hi [First name], your [Product] is still in your cart. Here is your link: [Checkout link]. Questions on size or delivery? Reply here. Reply STOP to opt out.'

Write in the buyer's language, using localized templates across markets. On the WhatsApp Business Platform route, ChatMitra says reminders must use an approved WhatsApp template, so check Meta's current rules there.

Recovery links, checkout slugs and prefilled carts

The link does most of the practical work. It should open the shopper's saved checkout with items in place. That way, nobody has to rebuild a prefilled cart on a small screen.

Store each unique checkout link in its own sheet column, then map that column to a merge field. A shared homepage link loses the cart, which defeats the reminder.

Platform apps handle this differently. MSG91's Shopify guide builds a button with recovery URL from the shop domain plus a variable for the checkout slug. Test any link on a real phone first.

Discounts: when to offer one and when to hold back

Avoid default discounting. A code in your first message gives away margin on orders that might have arrived without it. That cost will not appear in a sent report.

ChatMitra advises keeping any discount code for the last reminder. CartKeeper suggests a code if the shopper has not bought within 2 hours. Test both against your margin.

Compare reminders with and without an incentive. Use a time-limited offer only if the deadline is real, and count the discount as a cost in your results.

Conversation playbooks by abandonment reason

Baymard Institute research names extra costs and slow delivery among the main reasons. It also lists distrust when paying and forced account creation. Each one can be answered in a short reply.

On shipping cost, send the full total including delivery. On delivery date, give the current estimate, using a range where appropriate, and promise a date only when supported. Both replies answer what the checkout left open.

For payment trust, name the agent and list the methods you accept. For sizing, ask about their usual size, recommend one option, then send the payment link in chat.

Keep these answers in a shared document, so every agent starts from the same wording. Some shoppers have not forgotten at all, and only feel unsure about size.

Who owns the reply: team workflow after the reminder

Every reminder can start a conversation, so decide ownership before the batch begins. Name one person per shift for the team inbox, and agree who picks up questions outside normal hours.

Use the shared number as the single place shoppers reply. Route product questions to customer service, payment issues to whoever can check orders, and escalate refunds or exceptions.

Size batches to that capacity. If your shift can only handle a few chats, send a smaller batch. This is workload planning, not a WhatsApp rule.

Running an AI chatbot on another platform? Write down when it hands over to human agents, so a shopper is never answered twice with conflicting information.

Suppression rules: who should not get a reminder

Remove anyone with a recent order. Triggered apps cancel reminders when an order arrives, as ChatMitra describes. In a sheet workflow, you run that check yourself just before each batch. Someone may still buy mid-batch, so keep runs short.

Suppress repeat abandoners who have recently had a full sequence. Decide a cooling-off period that suits your buying cycle, and record the last reminder date in its own column.

Skip anyone in an open support conversation. A promotional nudge in the middle of a complaint reads badly, and an agent should finish that thread before any marketing resumes.

One opt-out list across reminders and broadcasts

A shopper who replies stop to a cart reminder has not opted out of one message. Treat it as ending marketing from your number until they opt in again.

Across replies, WASenderPlus defaults to matching opt-out keywords in 9 languages. These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees. Test your stop wording against your market's usual phrasing.

Keep a master opt-out column too, and do not assume a keyword match updates every sheet. When your team imports a new list for a seasonal broadcast, match it against that column first.

What the pacing settings mean for a cart batch

On a fresh number, WASenderPlus defaults to 250 sends a day and allows up to 6,000 on a warm one. Its configured warm-up schedule is 2 weeks, and the gap between sends is 4–40 seconds. Neither guarantees account standing.

With the shortest gap in the setting, 250 sends take about 17 minutes. With the longest, they take about 2 hours 47 minutes. That is arithmetic from the setting, not a guarantee.

Reaching 6,000 sends within a day needs an average gap near 14 seconds. At the longest gap, one day fits far fewer sends than that. Those figures are arithmetic from the setting, not a guarantee.

These are WASenderPlus operational settings, not WhatsApp-published limits or guarantees. Delivery depends on account status, recipient eligibility and applicable policies. Use these sums to plan staffing and run times, because long batches produce replies for hours.

Watching number health during cart reminders

Track blocks, reports and complaints alongside orders. Businesses on the WhatsApp Business Platform can also review a quality rating and messaging limits in Meta's tools, which change over time.

On any route, set a stop rule before sending. Agree what rise in stop rate or blocks pauses the batch, and who reviews the list and wording before the next run.

List problems are usually easy to check: old carts, missing consent and repeated reminders. Pacing is a queue control and does not prevent WhatsApp from restricting a number under its policies.

WhatsApp, email and SMS recovery compared on fit

WhatsApp vs email recovery differs in how a shopper responds. Chatarmin's comparison notes email lands in an inbox, promotions tab or spam folder. WhatsApp, it notes, lets shoppers reply in the same chat.

Email still suits long details, receipts and contacts without WhatsApp consent. SMS cart recovery suits short links where you meet SMS consent rules and WhatsApp use is low. You need not replace either.

Decide with three questions. Where did this shopper agree to hear from you? Which channel do they reply on? Who will answer? Let those answers pick the channel for each contact.

Building an omnichannel sequence without over-messaging

Markopolo describes an omnichannel sequence of an email first, WhatsApp four hours later, then SMS the next morning. Treat it as one example to test, not a rule for every store.

Cap total touches across channels, not per channel. A shopper who got two emails and a WhatsApp message has had three reminders, whichever tool sent them.

Share one record of sends, replies and orders, so your email tool and sheet agree. Retargeting ads on Facebook, Instagram and Google can sit alongside this, with recent buyers excluded from audiences.

Why published recovery and open rates disagree

Vendor figures for recovery rate and open rate vary widely, and this page does not repeat them. Many come from a vendor's own customers or selected sectors, so direct comparison is unreliable.

Check three things before trusting any number. Was the base all abandoned carts or only reachable ones? Was a sale counted by click, time window or holdout group? Were discounts included?

Orders after a reminder can overstate impact because some shoppers would have returned anyway, a problem ChatMitra also raises. Your own incremental figure, measured on your store, is the one worth planning around.

How to run a holdout test on your cart reminders

Set up the test in your sheet. Randomly assign eligible shoppers to a fixed holdout group that gets no reminder, and send the rest as normal. Retain each assignment across repeat checkouts.

Run for whole weeks, so weekday and weekend shoppers appear in both groups. Use the same observation window for each group. Keep going until each group is large enough that a few orders do not swing the result.

Next, calculate incremental recovery: purchase rate of reminded contacts minus purchase rate of the holdout. Multiply by eligible reachable checkouts and average order value to estimate extra revenue for the period.

Costing a reminder: plan price, message fees and break-even

WASenderPlus plans cost $6/mo on Entry and $19/mo on Team. Those are plan prices, not Meta rates. If your route uses the WhatsApp Business Platform, add its fees from Meta's current rate card.

Whapi and ChatMitra both describe cart reminders on that route as marketing messages charged per delivered message. Rates differ by country. Read the current card rather than a blog post.

Define contribution margin after discounts and variable costs. Break-even is where incremental contribution from your holdout test covers plan price, message fees and labor, which gives a usable ROI calculation in each country.

Official platform route or WASenderPlus: how to decide

Decide by fit: who owns the number, where your list lives and how much volume you send. Dondy's roundup lists Wati and Interakt among Shopify cart recovery options on the app side.

WASenderPlus suits teams that keep lists in Google Sheets, share one number and want people reviewing each batch. Independence does not show how a tool connects, so confirm its connection method, account requirements, data access and WhatsApp's terms.

Ask every vendor the same questions. How does it connect to WhatsApp? Does it cancel on purchase? Can it connect to your store? How are stop replies stored? Who handles replies? Those answers will shortlist tools quickly.

Connecting Shopify, Salla, Zid or a custom store to your sheet

Stores on Shopify, Salla and Zid may offer cart data through exports, apps or webhooks, so verify methods, permissions and plans in current documentation. Your goal is simpler: a current list of eligible checkouts in a sheet.

Use a platform export, or ask a developer to push events into Google Sheets. Capture name, phone, consent, product, checkout link, abandonment time, suppression status and payment status data as separate columns.

Custom stores follow the same pattern. Write recovery outcomes back against the contact in your CRM, so support and marketing see one history. A later campaign can then fit the last conversation.

When a reminder does not arrive: limits, US numbers and fallbacks

Marketing templates may face per-user marketing limits, and delivery to US numbers may be unavailable on the platform route. Those rules can change, so confirm message category, route and recipient scope in Meta's current documentation before planning.

Do not treat a missed delivery as a reason to resend. Mark the row, wait for your next planned step, and move that contact to email follow-ups or SMS if they consented.

Messaging mainly US recipients? Build around email and SMS first. A shopper-started chat does not create unrestricted marketing permission. US merchants messaging eligible international recipients face different checks. WASenderPlus is not a way around any delivery rule.

What to measure in every batch

Record messages sent, delivered and read where your tool shows them, plus reply rate, stop rate and attributed orders. Give each batch its own sheet tab, so one bad list stays visible.

Attributed revenue tells you which orders followed a reminder. It does not tell you which orders the reminder caused, so keep attribution and incremental results in separate columns.

Read results per store and per country where you run several. Check flow-level analytics in any triggered app beside your sheet. Treat a rising stop rate as a prompt to review the list.

Is a sheet-based cart workflow right for you? A checklist

This workflow fits when four checks pass. Your recipients are eligible, you capture phone and consent at checkout, someone can update the sheet before each run, and an agent can reply during sending.

It fits less well when every reminder must go out within minutes, overnight, with no staff present. In that case, compare event-triggered apps, and keep WASenderPlus for broadcasts and team replies if useful.

Begin with one reviewed batch, one agent and one message. Check the links, stop handling and reply load, then add a follow-up only after that first run is clean.
